Bluethroat Bracelet Inspiration: The Bluethroat is a tiny little bird with a brightly colored throat that’s only found on the Alaskan tundra.  There are other Bluethroats around Europe and Asia, but you’ll only spot a Bluethroat in North America up north, Alaska and the Yukon in Canada.  He’s about 5” long, and he weighs between .5 and .8 ounces.  About the size of a robin.

This is not a bird you are going to easily spot as they like to hide out.  You will have much better luck spotting one if it’s flying or singing.  They are shy and secretive, so you better have a lot of patience.  The Alaska Department of Fish & Game has locations on their website where you can possibly spot a Bluethroat.

According to Exoticbirds(dot)life, “Although it is known as the Bluethroat, many prefer to call it by the literal translation of its scientific name: Swedish nightingale.”  

There are 11 subspecies of Bluethroat around the world.  The only difference is how much blue they have on their throat.  

They forage on the ground eating insects for food.  They will occasionally eat seeds or berries in season.
